Bahrain

A quiet pause at every prayer.

Awwab is a free, gentle prayer companion for iPhone, Apple Watch and Android: for more peace, a content heart, and the joy of returning to God. It comes with a choice of calculation methods, a Qibla compass and a full Arabic interface. And if you'd like a little help staying present, the apps you choose rest with you at prayer time — and come back the moment you've prayed.

وَأَقِمِ الصَّلَاةَ طَرَفَيِ النَّهَارِ وَزُلَفًا مِّنَ اللَّيْلِ

“And establish prayer at the two ends of the day and in the early hours of the night.”Qur'an 11:114

Prayer times

Choose the timetable you pray by

Awwab has no setting named after Bahrain, and not every mosque in Bahrain follows the same timetable. In Settings, choose the method closest to the one you follow, then compare the first few days with your mosque:

  • Umm al-Qura University (Makkah) or Qatar Ministry of Awqaf (Fajr at 18.5° or 18°, Isha 90 minutes after Maghrib): the Gulf rule of a fixed time between Maghrib and Isha. Umm al-Qura moves Isha to two hours after Maghrib in Ramadan, as in Saudi Arabia; Qatar keeps 90 minutes.
  • University of Tehran (Fajr 17.7°, Isha 14°, Maghrib when the sun is 4.5° below the horizon): closest for timetables that set Maghrib later, after the redness in the eastern sky has gone.

Awwab starts on the Egyptian method, so choose one of these once. If times still differ from your mosque by a few minutes, follow the mosque.

Asr and occasions

Asr, Ramadan and Eid

For Asr, the standard time (a shadow equal to the object's height) is the default; choose Hanafi for the later Asr.

When two prayers are prayed together, both can be marked at once, and the lock for the second one will not come on.

Awwab's occasion reminders follow the Umm al-Qura calendar. Announcements in Bahrain are made after the moon is sighted and can differ from it, and from each other, by a day.

The Shield (optional)

Want a little help staying present?

Completely optional. Awwab calls it the Shield: when it's time to pray, the apps you choose rest with you — and come back the moment you've prayed.

  1. Choose the apps that can wait

Pick them through Apple's Screen Time. The choice stays on your phone, and Awwab never sees which apps they are.

  2. They rest while you pray

When a prayer begins, those apps lock. Open one and you see a verse of the Qur'an and a way to your prayer, not a harsh “Blocked”.

  3. Pray, and they come back

Mark the prayer as prayed and everything opens. If you truly need an app first, a short snooze lifts the lock for the time you set, from 1 to 30 minutes.

Free and private

No paywall, no ads, no tracking

Every feature is free. There is an optional supporter subscription for people who want to help the work continue; it unlocks nothing extra.

There is no account and no sign-in. The app shows no ads and has no analytics or tracking. Your prayers and settings live in your own private iCloud, and we never receive them.

Questions

Is Awwab free in Bahrain?

Yes. Every feature is free and the app has no ads. An optional supporter subscription exists for people who want to support the work; it unlocks nothing.

Which prayer-time method should I choose in Bahrain?

The one closest to your mosque's timetable: Umm al-Qura or Qatar for the Gulf rule of Isha 90 minutes after Maghrib, or University of Tehran for a later Maghrib. Awwab starts on the Egyptian method, so change it once in Settings.

What if I pray two prayers together?

A prayer can be marked as prayed at any time. When Dhuhr and Asr, or Maghrib and Isha, are prayed together, mark both, and the lock for the second one will not come on.

Can I add or subtract minutes from a prayer time?

Not yet. Manual minute adjustments are not in the app today, so choose the closest method and follow your mosque when they differ.

Is the app in Arabic?

Yes. Awwab is fully in Arabic, right to left, as well as in English and 12 other languages. You can change the language at any time in Settings → Language.

Does it work without the internet?

Yes. Prayer times and the Qibla are calculated on your phone, so they work offline.

Do I have to allow Screen Time?

Only for the lock. It is built on Apple's Screen Time, which you allow once. You can skip it during setup, and everything else in the app works without it. The list of apps you choose stays on your phone.

Is there an Android version?

Yes. Awwab is on Google Play for Android, and on the App Store for iPhone and Apple Watch.
