When the ezan rises, come back to peace.

Awwab is a free, gentle prayer companion for iPhone, Apple Watch and Android: for more peace, a content heart, and the joy of returning to God. It comes with prayer times on the same angles as Diyanet's timetable, a Qibla compass and honest prayer stats. And if you'd like a little help staying present, the apps you choose rest with you at prayer time — and come back the moment you've prayed.

إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَّوْقُوتًا

Prayer times

Prayer times in Türkiye: what to choose

Prayer times in Türkiye are published by the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet). Awwab has a Diyanet (Turkey) method on iPhone and Android: Diyanet's angles (Fajr 18°, Isha 17°) plus the minutes of precaution (temkin) Diyanet adds to some times. Awwab starts on the Egyptian method, so once you have the update, open Settings → Calculation method once and choose Diyanet (Turkey).

Compared with Diyanet's published times in Istanbul and Ankara, this method comes within about 2 minutes for every prayer; Asr and Maghrib can come a minute or two early.

Until the update reaches you, choose Muslim World League. It uses the same angles but adds no temkin, so compared with Diyanet, expect:

  • Fajr (imsak) and Isha (yatsı) within about a minute.
  • Dhuhr (öğle) and Asr (ikindi) about 5 minutes earlier.
  • Maghrib (akşam) about 7 to 8 minutes earlier, because Diyanet adds 7 minutes after sunset.
  • Sunrise about 7 minutes later, because Diyanet subtracts 7 minutes. Finish Fajr by Diyanet's güneş time to be safe.

Either way, the lock can start a little before your mosque's ezan: a minute or two with Diyanet (Turkey), a few minutes with Muslim World League. Pray with the ezan, and in Ramadan break your fast with the akşam ezan, not with the app.

Asr, Ramadan and the bayrams

Asr, and the dates of the year

Diyanet's timetable gives ikindi at the first time (asr-ı evvel), when a shadow equals the object's height. In the app, the madhab setting only changes Asr: every option except Hanafi gives that first time, and I'm not sure is the standard calculation. Choose Hanafi only if you wait for the second time (asr-ı sani), about an hour later in summer.

Reminders for Ramadan, the two bayrams and the other occasions follow the Umm al-Qura calendar. Diyanet publishes its own calculated calendar in advance, and the two can differ by a day. For fasting and for bayram, follow Diyanet.

Awwab has no separate imsakiye. In Türkiye, imsak is the start of Fajr, and the app's Fajr falls within about a minute of it. For sahur, still keep to Diyanet's imsak time.

The Shield (optional)

Want a little help staying present?

Completely optional. Awwab calls it the Shield: when it's time to pray, the apps you choose rest with you — and come back the moment you've prayed.

  1. Choose the apps that can wait

Pick them through Apple's Screen Time. The choice stays on your phone, and Awwab never sees which apps they are.

  2. They rest while you pray

When a prayer begins, those apps lock. Open one and you see a verse of the Qur'an and a way to your prayer, not a harsh “Blocked”.

  3. Pray, and they come back

Mark the prayer as prayed and everything opens. If you truly need an app first, a short snooze lifts the lock for the time you set, from 1 to 30 minutes.

Questions

Is Awwab free in Türkiye?

Yes. Every feature is free and the app has no ads. An optional supporter subscription exists for people who want to support the work; it unlocks nothing.

Does Awwab show Diyanet's prayer times?

Closely. That update adds a Diyanet (Turkey) method with Diyanet's angles and precautionary minutes; in Istanbul and Ankara it came within about 2 minutes of Diyanet's published times. Until then, Muslim World League uses the same Fajr and Isha angles, so those two match within about a minute, while Dhuhr, Asr and Maghrib come a few minutes earlier. Follow your mosque when they differ.

Which Asr setting matches Diyanet?

Any option except Hanafi, for example “I'm not sure”, which is the standard calculation. Diyanet's timetable uses the first Asr time. Choose Hanafi only if you follow the second time (asr-ı sani).

Can I add or subtract minutes from a prayer time?

Not yet. Manual minute adjustments are not in the app today, so choose the closest method and follow the ezan when they differ.

Will Ramadan and the bayrams match Diyanet's calendar?

Usually, but not always. The app's reminders follow the Umm al-Qura calendar, while Diyanet publishes its own calendar; they can differ by a day. Follow Diyanet.

Is the app available in Turkish?

Yes. Awwab is in Turkish, as well as in English, Arabic and 11 other languages. It starts in your phone's language; you can change it at any time in Settings → Language.

Does it work without the internet?

Yes. Prayer times and the Qibla are calculated on your phone, so they work offline.

Do I have to allow Screen Time?

Only for the lock. It is built on Apple's Screen Time, which you allow once. You can skip it during setup, and everything else in the app works without it. The list of apps you choose stays on your phone.

Is there an Android version?

Yes. Awwab is on Google Play for Android, and on the App Store for iPhone and Apple Watch.
